On Friday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini delivered a sermon calling for Muslim nations to unite against Israel. But what are the people of Iran saying? 

“The vast majority of Iranian people do not want their government to meddle into regional geopolitical affairs at their cost. They also don’t want to see Iran as an Islamic state,” says Mike Ansari with Heart4Iran. 

“The Iranian people are already facing economic hardship due to gross economic mismanagement by their governmental officials. In short, average Iranians don’t want a war with Israel, but welcome any opportunity to usher in a season of change simply because they are hoping for a better life.” 

The constant threat of war stirs up anxiety and fear among Iranians. This could lead to social unrest, which Ansari says the nation’s regime is not prepared to handle on top of the potential active conflict with Israel.
