Drug addiction is a troublesome reality in nearly every corner of the globe. However, it is particularly rampant in Iran, where hopelessness and access to cheap narcotics are both in ample supply.

Consider that recent statistics estimate that at least 6 million of Iran’s 78 million people suffer from some measure of drug-related problems.[1] This is a staggering number, when you realize that 1 in 13 people in Iran struggle with addiction.

Hamed was counted among those with this unfortunate distinction. Years of drug abuse had ravaged his body and tormented his mind.

Desperate and lonely, Hamed found himself spending hours in front of his satellite TV, searching for something to give him a glimmer of hope and significance. While surfing through the channels one evening, he came across a program unlike any other that he had seen.

Pausing on our 24/7 Farsi satellite TV channel, Mohabat TV, Hamed realized that the host was discussing drug addiction. However, rather than chastising the audience with the usual shaming and condemning language that accompanied the subject, the host of the program spoke of forgiveness and freedom.

Incredulous, Hamed listened as he heard for the first time of the God of the Bible who loved him and wanted to free him from his addiction.

Still skeptical, Hamed brought himself to call the number on the screen and spoke with one of the counselors who shared the incredible story of Christ’s sacrifice for his sins and free gift of salvation that could be his through faith.

Through tears of gratitude, Hamed gave his live to Jesus that evening.

For the first time in his life, Hamed found himself hopeful. However, he knew that his addiction was still a very real problem and deliverance from its grip seemed impossible, which scared him deeply.

Upon sharing this with the counselor, she told Hamed, “God can do the impossible.” She prayed with him and promised to follow up with a phone call in a few days.

Three days later, when they reconnected on the phone, Hamed told her an incredible story. The evening of their phone call, Jesus appeared to Hamed in a dream and told him, “Give all of your worry to me and I will take care of you.”

When he awoke the next morning, Hamed was completely healed from his addiction! He was set free and no longer had the desire for drugs and has been sober ever since!

This incredible miracle is becoming increasingly common in Iran, where Jesus is meeting people in their dreams and delivering them instantaneously from years of addiction.

Join us in praising the Lord for his amazing grace and mercy and pray for the freedom of 6 million Persians who, like Hamed once was, are suffering as slaves to addiction.
